Buhari Says He Will Return Nigeria To ‘Good Old Days’

   
President Muhammadu Buhari announced on Tuesday that his administration is determined to return Nigeria to the “good old days of accountability.”

The president said this while addressing a meeting with the Director of Global Upstream of the Shell Oil Company, Andrew Brown, in Abuja on Tuesday. Specifically, Mr. Buhari said his administration would improve national infrastructure and bring peace to the Niger Delta.

He lauded Shell Oil for conducting business operations in Nigeria, adding that his administration would restore security and stability to the oil-rich region of the country. The president stated that he would call for more naval protection of the oil installations in light of recent renewed attacks committed by the Niger Delta Avengers. At the same time, Mr. Buhari implored oil companies to take more responsibility in protecting their oil installations in order to complement the efforts of the navy.

Mr. Brown praised the Buhari administration for its fight against corruption and its efforts to build a stable economy conducive to oil operations. The oil director added that Shell would continue oil exportation through the Forcados terminal after it is repaired.

Speaking to the Federal Executive Council, the president stated that he would soon consider a proposal that would facilitate the payment of unpaid salary arrears owed by the government.
